We all know that sleep is an important factor in staying healthy, but few of us known about the benefits and disadvantages of being a night owl or an early bird. Is one really better than the other? Does your preferred bedtime really factor into your productivity, intelligence, or your health?

AsapScience set out to answer just that--and they did, in just three minutes.

First things first: being a night owl or an early bird is definitely not a choice. According to their video, it's largely based on genetics. For good reason, too. For evolutionary purposes, having some people prefer staying up late and others who prefer getting up early can mean a safer camp.

Knowing that there's an evolutionary benefit behind the two preferences doesn't exactly answer the original question though: is one better than the other?

Turns out, there are some extreme advantages to being an early bird, but there are some disadvantages. Same goes for those who are night owls.
