Staying hydrated is absolutely essential for your health. Not only will it help keep your skin nice and soft, it can also help keep you regular while revving up your metabolism and get everything running smoothly.

Sometimes, however, we can misinterpret our bodies and think that the signs of dehydration are something else entirely. For example, dehydration can cause you feel out of focus and tired, so you might end up reaching for a cup of coffee. Unfortunately, this can actually dehydrate you further. However, since the caffeine can stave off some of the side effects of dehydration, you might keep reaching for more coffee instead of water.

A good general rule is that you should be drinking two liters of water a day (or a little over 64 ounces). If you're sweating, you should be drinking even more than that, and if you eat a lot of fruit and veggies, you can get away with drinking a little less.

Either way, though, many Americans simply don't drink enough water--no, coffee and soda does not count! In fact, coffee and soda can dehydrate you.

So how do you know if you are drinking enough water?
