Hitting a weight-loss plateau happens in the first few weeks of any diet—that’s why people give up so easily.
If you can make it through this big bump in the road, you’ll get back on track and start shedding the pounds once more. But first, you have to move past the plateau.
Even if you cut your calories in half and doubled your time at the gym, your body would, ultimately, adjust to your new routine.
That’s just about when the number on your scale—which was plummeting two weeks ago—simply stops moving.
We all know Dr. Oz as the master of health and weight loss, and luckily for us, he now has some amazing tips to help trick your body into pushing past the wall keeping you from losing weight.
Here are 3 incredible ways Dr. Oz says will help you power through the inevitable weight-loss standstill:
- Switch up your calories: Like we mentioned before, your body will almost always adjust to any changes you make to your diet. So, even if you strictly eat no more than 1,200 calories each day, your body will eventually adapt and stop slimming down. To keep your body working hard to lose weight, Dr. Oz suggests varying your caloric intake. One day, cut out one snack, so you don’t consume more than 1,000 calories. The next, add a 100-calorie snack, so your body doesn’t get too comfortable. These changing patterns should force your body to exert more energy to adjust each day.
- Have a breakfast “sundae” in the morning: Sorry about getting your hopes up, but this isn’t an ice cream sundae. It is, however, just as delicious! Dr. Oz’s special recipe calls for creamy Greek yogurt, a banana, strawberries, ground flaxseed, unsweetened coconut, and his top secret ingredient—matcha green tea powder. This tasty treat has everything you need to start every morning the right way—protein, good fats, and metabolism-boosting green tea!
- Stay full by eating water: While many different diets ask that you fill up on water, Dr. Oz knows that water alone won’t keep you feeling full for very long. The solution—eat water-rich foods instead. In fact, a recent study showed that women who ate water-rich foods lost 33% more weight in the first six months than women who did not. Most of these hydration-packed foods are healthy fruits and vegetables, like watermelon, cantaloupe, spinach, grapefruit, and celery. Not only will these nutritious snacks help you stay full, but you’ll also start eating fewer calories throughout the day.
