No matter what your style looks like, it’s probably safe to assume that a yellow smile doesn’t match very well with what you’re wearing.
Yellow, lackluster teeth can make any person feel self-conscious and uncomfortable with smiling around other people.
If you’re a smoker or an avid coffee drinker, then you know how hard it is to make your pearly whites shine—even if you do brush your teeth five times a day!
Of course, you could get your teeth professionally whitened at the dentist, but just one session could cost anywhere from $300 to $800.
Luckily, there are plenty of at-home kits that you can buy at your local drugstore, but even those can set you back about $50 for a two-week treatment.
Before you decide to shell out your hard-earned money for these overpriced whitening treatments, try making your own first.
Get a gorgeous, white smile at home with just a few inexpensive ingredients that you may already have in your own bathroom:
DIY Teeth Whitening Recipe
What You’ll Need:
1 bottle hydrogen peroxide
1 bottle Listerine (any brand of mouthwash should work fine)
1 box baking soda
Step 1:
First, mix ½ part Listerine with ½ part hydrogen peroxide. Gargle the solution for about 1 full minute before spitting out, and make sure to rinse out your mouth with water.
Step 2:
Now it’s time to brush your teeth, with an added twist! First, grab a very small mixing bowl. Next, squeeze a little toothpaste inside. Now you’re going to add 1 tsp. of baking soda. Dilute the entire mixture with just enough water to help give it a consistency that looks more like toothpaste. Brush your teeth with this mixture for 2 minutes, as usual. And that’s it—you’re done!
Don’t Overdo It
If you’ve ever bought an at-home whitening kit, you know that the ingredients can eat away at your enamel, cause your teeth to feel extra sensitive, and make them more susceptible to cavities. Well, the same warning goes for the ingredients in any DIY teeth whitener you make. This powerful mixture is a natural, inexpensive way to get rid of unwanted yellow stains, but whiter teeth are never worth a painful cavity! Start using this solution about once a week, and build up from there.
