There’s a new trend going around, and it’s surprisingly practical. People are practicing yoga in a place that, when you think about it, has more than enough space to go around: local breweries.

It’s a smart model. Breweries tend to have lots of wide open space, freelance yoga teachers need somewhere to hold their classes. And best of all, you get customers for both products. Students at these brewery-based yoga classes can have their yoga fix and hang out with their classmates and have a drink afterward.

The marketing director for the Port City Brewing Company in Alexandria, Virginia says that it’s great on both sides. “A lot of times we don’t have the most varied customers, but everyone comes out for yoga…It’s a lot of people who say they wouldn’t typically have tried yoga before, but because they like coming to our tasting room, they come out.”

Your typical brewery yoga class is around $15 for a 45 minute class, and includes a pint after you’re finished. And they’ve sprung up all over the country, on both coasts and throughout the Midwest. It’s only a matter of time before it gets franchised.

Those who teach these yoga classes say that they see it as a great way to get people involved who aren’t into the typical “yoga atmosphere,” making it a much less intimidating environment with a great community feeling.

Try and find a yoga/brewery combo near you! It just may end up being the next big thing.

Below is a promo video for BrewAsana, one of the bigger yoga/brewery crossovers. Go ahead, see what it’s all about.

What do you think of this new yoga locale? A great idea, or a money-grabbing gimmick?
