For those of us that feel like we just have to snack, it can be hard to find snacks that fit into our meal plans. Because it’s not like we’re really that hungry, let’s be honest. It’s the need for something to crunch on that really drives us to snack. Luckily, nature has some great snacking foods that you can eat with little caloric cost to you! Here are just a few of my favorites.

Asparagus: One of my favorite veggies! Asparagus is delicious as its own snack or as a side to a nutritious meal. It’s rich in antioxidants and comes in at only 20 calories per cup!

Papaya: Sweet, tasty, and full of fiber, papayas are a great snack for when you have a sweet tooth.  At 43 calories per cup, you really can’t go wrong!

Celery: this fibrous food is full of sodium and potassium, and comes in at only 16 calories per cu! Dip it in some hummus and you’ve got yourself a healthy snack.

Cucumbers: These babies are rich in antioxidants and just like their other light green friend, they’re only 16 calories per cup. Slice them up, drizzle a little lemon juice on them and add some salt and pepper and you’ll be in healthy snack heaven.

Grapes: It sounds like one of those lies you hear from weight loss magazines all the time, but it’s true: frozen grapes are one of my favorite desserts. Grapes come in at 62 calories per cup and are a great source of potassium, too.

In reality, most fruits and vegetables make great snacking foods. But if you’re looking for crunchy, sweet, and substantial, these are my favorite ways to go.

What are your favorite low-calorie snacks?
