Do you have a history of acne?
If you do, you’ve probably been told over and over that you need to rid your skin of oils, since that’s what’s clogging your pores, right?
Actually, dermatologists say that oil may just be the best thing for those pesky breakouts.
When you get blemishes, it’s because your pores are clogged up with bacteria and a skin-created oil called over-produce sebum.
But strangely enough, this overproduction of oil can often happen when you use too many harsh skin products. This includes cleansers and peels, things that you may even be using in an attempt to get rid of that acne.
Oil based cleansers, on the other hand, makes sure that your skin doesn’t get dried out, so that your body doesn’t feel the need to produce that pesky pimple-causing oil.
These oils can also help you stave off dullness and other forms of skin aging.
So what kind of oils are good for your skin?
Look for oils that are high in omega-6 fatty acids (good for your skin, not great for your stomach!) and oils that are high in vitamins A, C, and E to improve your skin’s tone.
Tea tree, lavender, and rosemary oil are great for your skin, but there are some oils to look out for.
Wheat germ and avocado oils are a little too heavy for the skin, and any oils that contain lots of silicone can clog you up.
There’s no one oil that works for everyone, so if you’re looking for an oil to clear up your acne, try out a few different ones on small patches of skin and see which one works for you.
