There’s nothing wrong with a good home remedy. Lots of homeopathic treatments really do work, and they’re even recommended my doctors. And if they’re backed with some kind of evidence, maybe they could be true.

But those things you hear that sound like they’re too good to be true? They are.

If you’ve seen any of these crawl across your Facebook feed recently, don’t listen to them. It’s not their fault they were given false information. Hey, maybe we even posted one on accident. But there’s nothing wrong with learning when you’re wrong.

  1. Lemon water boosts your immune system. Lemon water doesn’t hurt you, certainly. But us westerners who eat in excess already get so many nutrients to boost our immune system that there’s little chance that lemon water has any significant effect on your immune system.
  2. Juice cleanses do…anything. If you’ve ever actually done a cleanse, you know the effects. It takes quite a toll on the digestive system. Not only that, but even if you lose weight on your cleanse, you’re likely to gain it back when you go off of it. And since even the greenest of green juices is full of sugar, there’s only so good for you it can be.
  3. Negative calorie foods. Fruits and veggies like apples, watermelon, cauliflower, and cucumbers are certainly low in calories, but there’s no such thing as a food that burns more calories and digestion than they actually contain. These foods are good for you, but they’re not going to evaporate in your stomach.
  4. Honey and cinnamon can literally cure anything. If that were true, we wouldn’t even have cancer deaths anymore, so maybe let’s put this one to rest.
  5. Goji berries will keep you virile and help you live longer. Again, this fruit is plenty healthy, but there isn’t much evidence that they do anything that people claim they do.

The lesson? Always research things you find on the internet!
