Do you bruise easily? Or at least feel like you always have bruises you don’t remember getting?

It’s not just because you ran into something on accident, though of course that could be part of it.

No, the main reason is probably something like where your bruise is—areas like shins have less cushioning to protect them from bruising—or a deficiency in vitamins C or K. The deficiency means you probably have some kind of blood clotting abnormality.

However, the reason may just be that you’re particularly prone to bruising and there’s not much you can do about it. When your skin is pale, they may show up no matter how small the injury was.

So how do you make them go away faster?

The first step is to help them heal.

You can ice your bruise when you first discover it to help you reduce inflammation.

Though it may look gross, your bruise is healing properly if it’s changing color. If it changes from reddish-purple to yellow-green, you’re doing fine. But if you feel like it’s taking forever to disappear, you can try getting more vitamin C and K, either by diets or supplements.

You can also try applying C and K topically, with vitamin C and K serums or creams. You can apply these to areas you commonly bruise before you even get bruises, too, to prevent them.

Pineapple may also be a good way to assist your bruises in healing, since it contains bromelain, an enzyme that reduces swelling.

If you just want to cover your bruise up, try your favorite concealer, or a slightly tinted moisturizer.

And don’t worry. Everyone bruises sometimes.
