Last year, Don and Belinda Herbert met Tim Jones, by chance, at a church when the couple was attending a flea market nearby.
Both singers, Tim and Don became fast friends, and added each other on Facebook before they parted ways.
Don had chronic liver disease, and 6 months before meeting Tim, he had a liver transplant.
However, that wasn’t the end of his troubles.
As a complication with his liver transplant, his kidneys failed.
He started on dialysis, but it was clear he’d need a kidney transplant, too. Belinda, unwilling to wait the 5-7 years it would likely take to get a donor, posted a plea to Facebook. It pleaded for her Facebook friends to consider donating or getting a fundraiser to get insurance long enough to get through the process of finding a donor.
“I want the man I love to live a long life. I want to grow old with him by my side,” she said.
Of all people, Tim was the first to respond. He got tested as a donor, and to everyone’s amazement, it was found that he was a perfect donor for Don.
But during the operation, there was yet another complication.
Tim had an artery enlargement that could have killed him if it had gone undiscovered. They were able to remove the problem. So in donating his kidney, Tim saved not just Don’s life, but also his own.
Both Tim and Don are doing well now. Their stories will keep them friends forever. And it just goes to show that offering a good deed to a friend in need is never a bad thing to do.
