Everyone has a goal. But Patty Sanchez’s past goal may be difficult for many to understand.
A few years ago, Patty was famous for all the wrong reasons.
She was 721 pounds at her heaviest. She was on a mission: to be the heaviest woman in the world. She ate 13,000 calories a day in order to keep up and gain her weight.
What caused this crazy weight gain? Her former partner, who not only encouraged her weight gain, but fed her every day.
When she divorced her second husband in 1991, she was a size eight, and weighed 154 pounds. Tired of trying to be skinny to please men, she decided that she would eat whatever she wanted.
“In my 20s after having my children my weight jumped to 238 pounds,” she recounts. “In my 30s I was 294 pounds and by my 40s I was more than 392 pounds.”
In 2000, she met her ex-boyfriend.
“We dated for 10 years,” she said. “At first he wasn’t interested in big women, but he said I opened up a new world to him and he enjoyed it. He told me he had fantasies about being with a girl and making her fatter.
“Ninety percent of our relationship revolved around eating. I loved to cook and eat and he loved to watch me eat and rub my belly.”
At the height of their relationship, she was gaining 14 pounds every month.
She detailed a regular meal in a day that she was at her heaviest.
“For breakfast, I would eat biscuits and gravy, eggs over easy, fried potatoes, bacon, and orange juice.
“For lunch, I would normally eat a good amount of fast food along with large sodas.
“For dinner, I would have a four to five course meal of meat, potatoes, macaroni and cheese, rice, bread, and iced tea.”
It wasn’t until they broke up that Patty realized she needed to get her life back on track.
“After we broke up,” she said, “I was laying in bed thinking about how he was carrying on with his life and I was stuck in bed with no one to help me and that was an overwhelming reality check. My lowest point in life was when I was at my heaviest weight of 721 pounds and couldn’t walk three steps to the bathroom from my bed.”
So she enlisted the help of her sons in order to get back on track.
She now eats about 3,000 calories a day. She cooks for herself, and eats healthy meats, veggies, and fruits, without the enormous amounts of fast food and refined carbs she was eating before.
The results? She’s lost an amazing 238 pounds, going from her heaviest weight to 476 pounds—and counting.
“I don’t have any regrets because I honestly came to my senses and saved my own life.”
