Thick, natural brows are in style these days, with celebrities like Cara Delevigne and Lily Collins sporting big brows.
Everyone is trying to get those perfect brows, but Polly Smith, took it just a little too far.
Polly Smith is 19, and she decided to get the perfect brow look by waxing, threading, and dyeing her eyebrows. This is how she looked before:
It cost her about $50, according to Seventeen magazine. But what happened after that cost her much, much more.
She had a dye test done the day before, and everything turned out fine. But when she got her eyebrows dyed, she had an allergic reaction. Her eyebrows became red and itchy—and it only got worse in the days following.
The next day, Polly said she could “barely open her eyes.” One of them was swollen shut.
Her eyebrows are now yellowed and scabbed. When she asked her doctor for a professional opinion, they told her that she had a severe reaction to the dye.
The reaction didn’t end with the yellowness and scabbing. She eventually began to start losing eyebrow hairs.
She was treated with antibiotics, and had to take fifteen tablets a day that included antibiotics, steroids, and anti-histamines.
Luckily for her, the salon gave her a full refund, plus more. The salon manager, Praash Mangupiya, said:
“We followed the correct procedure from the suppliers. The skin test was done as recommended leaving 24 hours in case of a reaction. The test was fine so she was given the treatment…we gave her a full refund.”
But Polly says this may end up impacting her entire life.
“Doctors have said I could be permanently scarred. Being a performer if my face is disfigured, it is going to impact me at auditions.
“You should think twice about doing something which could scar your face. I don’t think it is worth the risk.”
