A mother left scarred for life from a freak campfire accident at the age of 9 has developed a revolutionary soothing cream to help others dealing with rough, painful scars.
56-year-old Jane Healy was left with severe burns on three-quarters of her body after a campfire accident turned her into a “human fireball” as a child.
According to The Daily Mail, a campfire stove blew up in Healy’s face and her pajamas essentially melted into her skin.
Not only did Healy have to undergo countless skin grafts to repair the damage caused by the fire, but she also lost her ear and breasts and had her neck fused to her chest.
While none of the treatments doctors recommended ever really helped Healy’s scarring, she always felt softer after an afternoon spent swimming in the sea.
“Over time I became convinced it was the saltiness of the sea that was improving my skin,” Healy said. “When I told doctors my theory about the sea, they would ignore me and prescribe E45 cream to soothe the burns.”
“But the truth is nothing ever made me skin feel as soft as the sea did,” she added.
It wasn’t until she inherited a relatively large sum of money in 2014 that Healy finally decided to act on her idea.
Working alongside scientists at Star Laboratory, Healy and her 25-year-old daughter Laura developed Sea Crème, a soothing lotion that helps soothe and soften scars.
Packed with sea salt, carrot seed oil, and beeswax, Healy swears by Sea Crème’s incredible moisturizing powers.
“If someone told my childhood self that I would be the one to improve my skin and that one day I would own a business, I'd never have believed it,” she said. “To turn my horrific ordeal into something positive is amazing - I'm so proud of myself.”
