Last week, a vineyard owner named Antonio Docampo Garcia passed away in Spain—and people around the world are celebrating.

Not about his death, of course. But instead, his life! And believe me when I say Garcia lived a very, very, very long life indeed.

The avid lover of wine passed away at the ripe old age of 107!

According to his friends and family, Garcia’s secret to a long life probably doesn’t have much to do with regular exercise and a healthy diet, as one might think.

His son, Manuel Docampo Lopez, told regional daily La Voz de Galicia that his father drank as much as four bottles of red wine a day for most of his life.

In fact, Lopez insists, his father drank nothing but his homemade red wine—not even water.

Recently, medical experts have discovered that red wine offers a slew of unbelievable health benefits, especially when it comes to weight loss and cancer prevention.

“I would watch him drink a litre-and-a-half all at once, and he never drank water,” Lopez said.

Garcia dedicated his entire life to making wine after a close brush with death while fighting in the Spanish Civil War.

He founded the wine making company Bodegas Docampo; and, while he sold much of the wine he produced, Garcia always made sure to keep a hefty supply for himself.

“If he produced 60,000 litres a year he would keep 3,000 litres for himself,” his nephew, Jeronimo Docampo, who now runs Bodegas Docampo, told local media.

Naturally, Garcia’s wine-heavy lifestyle was criticized many times over the years, but he always marched to the beat of his own drum.

Whenever somebody urged Garcia to drink less wine, he would say: “Give me another glass of wine so I can snore when I’m dead.”

And it looks like he got the last laugh after all!
