There are few things in life that are quite as frustrating as running out of shampoo or conditioner, especially when one bottle is completely empty and the other could easily last two more weeks.
Anybody obsessed with having healthy, voluminous, shiny hair knows that you absolutely must use the same brand of shampoo and conditioner at all times.
But after years of wasting money on expensive matching hair products, we’ve finally discovered the truth: you don’t actually have to buy the same brand of shampoo and conditioner.
In fact, according to Women’s Health, doing so may end up hurting your chances of keeping your hair in tip-top shape.
“It’s almost like you’re treating two different hair textures,” Nunzio Saviano, New York hairstylist and salon owner, told the magazine. "One is from the scalp to the mid-shaft, and [the other is from] the mid-shaft to the ends."
Using a matching shampoo and conditioner might even be the reason you often feel like your scalp is super oily, but your ends look totally fried.
Instead of purchasing specific brands based on one simple problem you have with your hair, try treating each issue with its own solution.
For example, if your hair type seems to be both limp and coarse, you don’t have to choose between volume and softness.
You can just as easily pick up a shampoo that adds body and volume to each strand and pair it with a moisturizing conditioner.
So, the next time you run out of your all-time favorite shampoo, don’t worry about making a special trip to the nearest salon—feel free to try something new.
You might be surprised to find that you actually love the results!
