Lemons are one of the staple ingredients for cooking that people keep on hand all the time. But, they also can go bad pretty quickly.

If you love buying lemons and tend to buy a lot of once, there’s a better way to keep them fresh than just putting them in a bowl on the counter.

You could take it a step up and keep them just in the fridge, but that’s not the little kitchen hack that we’re talking about.

Bethany from the blog, The Glamorous Housewife, taught us the best way to store lemons so that they stay fresh and juicy!

The trick is one you’d never expect, but you’ll be glad to always have fresh lemons on hand and in your meals.

Bethany said that she cooks every single night of the week and uses fresh, seasonal ingredients just as much, which is why she wanted to figure out how to make them last longer.

Her trick saves the citrus from going bad and is not hard to do at all.

She discovered the secret in a vintage book on homemaking and has used it ever since. All you have to do is store the lemons in a jar of water!

It’s as simple as it sound. Start by finding a jar big enough to fit all of the lemons into the jar.

Then, fill the jar to the rim with water, high enough for all of the lemons to be completely submerged.

Then stick the whole thing in the fridge and pull out the lemons as you need!

“It turns out the water seals the lemon peel and keeps the lemon from drying out,” Bethany wrote in her blog post about the lemon trick.

It may seem a little strange at first, but it’s worth taking up a little bit of space on the shelf in the fridge if it means you’re saving money. Plus, the lemons floating in the jar actually look quite nice!
