What’s the strangest dessert you’ve ever eaten? In the last few years, it seems like we’ve gone crazy in our quest to create insane food combinations.

Now that we’ve all tried bacon wrapped doughnuts and deep fried butter, it’s pretty tough to actually surprise us with something fresh and new.

But top chef Grant Achatz, who owns Alinea Restaurant in Chicago, has just proven that you can never get too creative when it comes to dessert.

Over the last couple of years, Achatz and his team have become famous for one unbelievable item on their menu: Edible, helium-filled balloons.

According to a viral video that shows how these balloons are created and eaten, the balloon itself is actually made out of a thin layer of green apple taffy.

As seen in the mesmerizing clip below, the sugary edible balloon is filled with real helium, which is why Achatz and his team suggest sucking it out first before eating the balloon.

The entire green apple flavored balloon is edible—including the string!

Believe it or not, the string that holds everything together is actually made out of a long thin strip of dehydrated apple.

These tasty balloon desserts are a must-try if you ever find yourself in Chicago. See how the delicious treat is made in the video below now!
