Barbecue season is finally upon us, and that can only mean one thing: ANTS!
Sure, ants aren’t too particular about what time of the year they like to show up, but we can all agree that summer is when we get a little too relaxed about covering food and keeping doors and windows closed.
While there are plenty of tricks to ward off ants, most of us don’t want to spray a whole bunch of chemicals around our home.
Instead, try some of these natural ways to get rid of ants:
- Seal Off Entrances: The simplest way to ensure that ants don’t come in contact with all your delicious food is by blocking them from your home to begin with. Putty, glue, plaster, and silicone tack are all excellent at covering any nooks and crannies you might be worried about.
- Soapy Water: Spray pesky ants with soapy water to kill them and disintegrate their chemical trails so they can’t attract more ants.
- Sprinkle Deterrent Odors: Believe it or not, there are plenty of scents that ants absolutely hate, including garlic, peppermint, and lavender. Feel free to load up on these scents in fresh or oil form to deter ants away from any area you think they might show up.
- Use Coffee Grounds: Sprinkling coffee grounds on ant hills and along your house foundations will throw ants off their trails and confuse them. It may take some time, but coffee grounds really are excellent at distracting ants away from your home.
- Baking Soda and Dish Soap: Mix dish soap with a little bit of baking soda and water to create a solution that you can use around the house. Spread a thin layer on window sills to keep ants from getting inside.
- Use Corn Meal As Bait: While ants will try to eat any corn meal they find, they actually can’t digest it properly. Try sprinkling corn meal wherever you see ants creeping in.
