Clif Bar has issued an immediate recall of three different types of energy bars over concerns of possible Listeria contamination.
According to the Food and Drug Administration, the recall is linked to reports that the company's sunflower kernel supplier, SunOpta, may have sent out seeds contaminated with Listeria.
While there have been no reports of illness just yet, Clif Bars is still issuing the recall out of “abundance of caution.”
As KATU reports, the three recalled flavors include:
- CLIF BAR Nuts & Seeds energy bars with "best by" date ranges starting 08JUN16 through 21JAN17
- CLIF BAR Sierra Trail Mix energy bars with "best by" date ranges starting 05JUN16 through 24MAR17
- CLIF Mojo Mountain Mix trail mix bars with "best by" date ranges starting 16JUN16 through 02FEB17
In the last year alone, there have been a shocking amount of Listeria contamination reports from companies like Quaker and Dole.
Most of these possible outbreaks have been linked directly back to SunOpta’s sunflower seeds.
While most adults may experience mild and seemingly harmless symptoms from Listeria contamination, it can prove to be deadly for infants and the elderly.
Make sure to contact your doctor immediately if you start having abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, high fever, severe headache, or sickness after consuming anything affected by the recall.
