A four-year-old girl died recently in Pennsylvania. She was found in the backseat of a car at 3:30pm in downtown Williamsport, PA, by the babysitter who had accidentally left her there that morning.

The young girl, Samaria Motyka, had been picked up by her regular babysitter – Motyka’s father’s girlfriend – from her home that morning. Motyka’s babysitter was originally supposed to drop Motyka off at the day care center before heading to work.

This never happened.

The babysitter ended up going straight to work, leaving Motyka in the backseat of her car for four hours.

The temperature highs that day reached the 90s.

Raymond Kontz III, the police chief investigating this case, is unsure how “the woman could have left the girl in the back of the car. That is still under investigation.”

Kontz’s assistant, assistant chief Timothy Miller, adds that although negligence seems to be sitting at the base of this event, the death was still a hugely tragic accident.

The babysitter is “remorseful” and is willingly cooperating with the ongoing investigations – taking a blood test to check for drug or alcohol consumption.

The county coroner has yet to determine the cause of Motyka’s death, and toxicology reports are still being processed.

We can only hope that this tragic story doesn’t end up having an even worse ending. Our condolences go out to the Motyka family.
