Stephen Bergs, a man from Australia, went to the doctor to get his ear checked.
He’d known that he had a build-up of earwax, but didn’t imagine that the problem would be quite so large or gruesome.
Developing earwax is the ear’s natural way of keeping itself clean and germ-free. The earwax usually disposes of itself naturally, but for some people, who might have more earwax than others, the problem can build up. Other individual problems might also contribute to earwax buildup, like narrow ear canals or hard earwax.
At the doctor, Bergs sat down to have his ears irrigated – the doctors would use a metal pump to completely flush his ears out with water.
It took a couple pumps for anything to happen, but once the wax is dislodged, someone in the room immediately reacts to the disgusting sight.
A massive lump of orange and brown wax emerges from Bergs’ ear.
Another poor viewer in the room comments, “I don’t want to touch it. The water is brown.”

An earwax buildup can eventually cause ear pain, loss of hearing, or vertigo, but doctors don’t advise people to attempt removing earwax themselves. People can mistakenly damage their ear canal or push the earwax further into their ear.
Doctors can easily irrigate the ear with ear drops, suction the earwax out, or use a specific tool to dig out the wax safely.
