Not too long ago, Leeds arena hosted a competition to find the World’s Strongest Man.
28-year-old Eddie Hall, a competitor known as “The Best” from Stoke-on-Trent, was ultimately the man who won the title…but at a price.
Hall and two other competitors had already lifted 465kg, leaving the title still up for grabs.
That was when Hall rose to the challenge and agreed to lift a whopping 500kg – half a ton.
Footage of the competition shows Hall preparing for the moment by taking deep breaths, and then lifting the weighted bar.
But as the crowd cheered, Hall suddenly sank to his knees and was surrounded by competition staff members and his medical team.
The crowd immediately became anxious as the host attempts to keep their spirits up.
Thankfully, Hall suffered no serious injuries.
The strain of lifting the winning weight had caused him to rupture several blood vessels in his head and cause a severe nosebleed – but he was otherwise unscathed.
Afterward, Hall told the press, “That nearly killed me. The pressure on my body was unreal. I passed out after. … It’s not healthy doing something like that. But I’ve done it.”
Hall is immensely proud to be a part of history and is now content to return home to his wife, Alexandra, and their two daughters.
