A 42-year-old police head constable in northern India recently went to the hospital to treat his stomach pain. He complained that it was “piercing.”
The doctors proceeded to perform a CT scan on him, and immediately discovered the problem.
There were 40 folding knives in the man’s stomach.
When questioned about them, the man simply said, “I don’t know why I used to swallow knives. I just enjoyed its taste and I was addicted.”
Dr. Jatinder Malhotra, the surgeon who ultimately performed the procedure, admitted that he had “never seen anything like it” ever throughout his 20 years of practicing as a doctor. “He had a wild urge to consume metal. Even for us, the experienced surgeons, it was frightening.”
Unfortunately, the man wasn’t able to undergo surgery until two days later. The doctors had to carefully plan their procedure to ensure that they wouldn’t further harm the patient in the extraction process.
The surgery was ultimately a success.
All 40 knives were removed – even the ones that had been rusted, broken, or open in his stomach.
The man promises he will not swallow knives anymore and will receive psychiatric care to avoid future incidents happening.
