23-year-old Brian Turner has had acne problems his entire life. He shared in a video on Instagram, “I used to have severe acne all over my face. I had nodular cysts…over my face every single day of my life.”
He tried many different methods of clearing his acne, including a 70-week regimen of Accutane, a strong anti-acne drug.
After he took Accutane, though, “[he] started to relapse a little bit and [he] could see [his] acne starting to come back in little dots.”
Turner decided then to get off Accutane and try a bevy of other methods.
Of these methods, what ultimately worked and stuck was adopting a vegan diet.
Yes, Turner is a bodybuilder, but he eats absolutely no animal-based products, including anything dairy. All of his protein comes from other sources.
One specific aspect of his diet that he emphasizes, however, isn’t necessarily part of a vegan diet: drink more water.
Each day, Turner drinks at least one gallon of water and consumes anywhere from 10 to 16 servings of vegetables every single day. “If you do these two things I guarantee that you will see some difference in your skin,” he said.
Turner takes care to not use extremes when discussing acne clearing strategies – perhaps because he realizes not everyone’s skin responds in the same manner for various treatment methods.
Scattered among Turner’s bodybuilding posts and acne tips on Instagram are many inspirational and encouraging posts he shares from some of his followers or his own experience. He admits that the struggle to clear his acne was difficult, and he had trouble overcoming the bullying.
For his followers who are going through the same challenges, Turner advises them to find an outlet in which they can channel all their focus and energy, block out all the negativity in their lives. For him, it’s bodybuilding and hoping that his experience can continue to help others on their own journeys.
