On Sunday night, Rosemary Thomas visited a Popeyes location in New York City with her sister, daughter, and niece. The foursome placed their order, but received a horrifying surprise when it actually arrived.

According to Thomas, her daughter’s fried chicken order came with not just chicken, but also a dismembered rat head.

The dark gray shape had been breaded and fried with the remainder of the chicken in their order.

Thomas took photos of their order, clearly featuring a breaded rat head sitting against a background of Popeyes paper, and posted it to Facebook. The photos were accompanied by a rant which included more details about the situation and the customer service they received.

"This is clearly a rat and [the restaurant has] the nerve to have a 5 rating by the department of health," Thomas wrote.

She’d gone onto the city’s Department of Health's website, and discovered that the Popeyes storefront she’d visited had received an "A" grade when it had been inspected in April.

When Thomas made her post, she reported that she’d sent her photos and complaints to DESK@NY1, but received no message in response.

Since then, a spokeswoman for Popeyes reported that the franchise owner has been contacted and expressed her own surprise, “When things are found they usually turn out to be chicken organs.”

We’re curious to hear how Popeyes will respond to Thomas’ post – especially considering how it’s been shared over 100k times at this point – and in the meantime, we’re probably going to steer clear from them for a long while.
