The South African Medical Journal just published a report about one poor man’s experience of getting his wedding ring stuck on his penis.
A 28-year-old man (whose identity will not be revealed) just endured “penile strangulation” after he got his wedding ring stuck on his penis.
He was trying to use the ring for sexual reasons. This only ended up causing his penis to swell to the point where it was no longer possible to remove the ring again.
The man endured this pain for four hours – perhaps because he was too mortified to tell anyone what had happened – before his mother finally took him to the hospital.
By then, his penis was turning blue from the pressure, blood, and swelling.
The doctors first tried to cut the ring with a surgical saw, but the swelling was too great. They weren’t able to get the saw close enough to successfully cut the ring without further injuring the man.
Various other methods were attempted until doctors finally had to make “multiple puncture aspirations with a syringe” to physically reduce the swelling before removing the ring. The doctors reported in their report “No proper guidelines exist for the treatment of this condition, so the ‘best method’ is the one with a successful outcome.”
Don’t worry – the man was prescribed antibiotics and painkillers and will recover in time.
He has also been warned to never do this again.
We’re fairly certain his experience is warning enough to everyone.
