Beginning back in January 2016, EOS customers began to post shocking photos online of how their skin responded to the company’s lip balm products.
For Rachel Cronin, the reaction began “within hours of applying the balm.” Her lips felt cracked and dry, which prompted her to put on even more of the product – and so the vicious cycle continued until she realized that the product was actually causing these adverse reactions.
Her resulting cracked, flaked, bleeding lips lasted for the following ten days.
Cronin’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, filed a suit against the company, asking payment for damages and demanding that the company change its packaging to warn its consumers of the potential allergic reaction that could happen in response to EOS lip balms’ ingredients.
On November 2, EOS finally responded to its 11 class action lawsuits, agreeing to settle compensation with money or credit.
According to Buzzfeed News, the consumers who were affected by the same reactions can receive either $75 for medical expenses, $15 in a cash award, $20 of EOS products, or up to $4,000 depending on the extent of the consumers’ injuries.
A judge has yet to sign off on this agreement, and EOS has yet to respond to these rumors.
