Ever since Tyler Boone was eight years old, he’s been growing his hair out. Tyler is now ten, and admits that the past two years of watching his hair grow hasn’t been easy. Many people mistook him to be a girl.
But rather than let these negative comments deter him and have him cut his hair sooner, Tyler persisted because he wanted to accomplish his goal: Donate 12 inches of hair to his friend, Gabby Ruiz.
Gabby, 12, has alopecia, a medical condition that causes very early baldness.
The two kids originally met in Florida, where Tyler and his family lives, but Gabby and her family has since moved to Georgia.
The distance did nothing to deter Tyler’s spirit and determination.
In the last week of 2016, Tyler and Gabby reunited at a salon in Florida where the latter was given the honor of cutting Tyler’s 12-inch ponytail off.
Professionals at the nonprofit organization, Children with Hair Loss, will still have to go through the process of cleaning and styling Tyler’s hair into a wig, but both he and Gabby are thrilled that they’ve come this far.
And finally, after two years Tyler has since gotten his hair styled into a new cut, which feels, “so different” after having avoided haircuts for so long.
