101-year-old Eunice Modlin has lived a long, remarkable life. And she has no intention of slowing her list of achievements yet.
Modlin lives in Boonville, Indiana, with her only son who she hasn’t outlived. (Her three other children have already passed away.)
When she was younger, she was a competitive archer who could shoot arrows “over a mile,” and won just about every contest she entered.
As society changed around her, she always did her best to accommodate the times. Modlin’s weathered the Great Depression and has just learned how to use a cell phone.
“She just always went with the time,” said one of Modlin’s granddaughters, Tammy Gentry.
Modlin’s remaining son, Lonnie, adds that his mother has never drank, never smoked, and always eaten food that she grew herself, in her own garden. All of this is, perhaps, how she’s managed to keep in good health for so many years.
But if you were to ask Modlin the same question, she attributes her long life to chocolate and sleep. “It’s important to take a nap,” she insists. As well as eat two pieces of dark chocolate a day.
We’re not sure doctors would have the same advice, but since these strategies have been working for Modlin for the past 101 years, we’re certainly not going to complain.
