Melanie Montenegro is a 22-year-old model and mother from Guatemala who was studying journalism and theatre, and also made work by acting in a soap opera for YouTube. She recently decided to get a liposuction – but it went tragically wrong.
During the procedure, Montenegro suffered from a heart attack and passed away.
The surgeon, Dr. Felipe, located in the Ecuadorian province of Guayas, apparently delayed telling her family about her death – just so he could slip away and escape without dealing with the consequences.
Montenegro’s father only learned about his daughter’s death in a phone call a little while afterward, when the clinic called him.
He had no idea that his daughter had gone in for the procedure, but speculated that she’d been allured by the advertisements on TV that offered the fat reduction surgery at an incredibly low price.
The clinic also told him that Montenegro hadn’t told her doctors that she was fatally allergic to one of the medicines they’d used during the procedure. It had been impossible to save her life by the time they realized.
Prosecutors have already conducted searches of the clinic and the surgeon’s home for signs of the escaped doctor, but their search has thus far been inconclusive.
Montenegro’s mother only hopes that her daughter will be brought to justice after all the investigations have been completed.
