Lauren Walker, of Motherwell, Glasgow, was shopping for groceries at the Marks & Spencer Foodhall when her son, Alistair Findlay, suddenly became upset and started crying.
At first, Walker was having a difficult time calming down her own son. She was already thinking of leaving the store as soon as she can, even though she hasn’t bought her groceries.
But then, when a cashier approached Walker and grabbed her son, that’s when she knew something miraculous was about to happen.
Well, not necessarily turning water into wine, but specifically, turning a crying baby into a happy and helpful one.
According to The Daily Record, the cashier, named Mubarak Ahmad, took the baby and carried him while he checks Walker’s things out. Ahmad was carefully scanning one time after another with one hand, and carrying the baby with the other hand.
Alistair was very preoccupied with Ahmad work. He was entertained by the beeping sound.
Walker wrote about the incident on Marks and Spencer’s Facebook page. She even included a video of the interaction. She wrote:
“My mum, son and I were in the Uddingston Foodhall branch on Saturday and, while going around, my baby son started to get a bit restless as, let’s be honest, what baby likes shopping?
“However, the staff member, who I’ve since found out is called Mubarak, took the time with him to talk away so we could manage to get the trolley filled and shopping complete. He was a godsend.
“Then when we reached the checkout, my son was thrilled to see his new friend serving on the till. Mubarak spoke away to him and, remarkably, then took my baby behind the counter to let him help.
“Alistair smiled and squealed the full way through because he was having so much fun.
“Thanks to Mubarak, he really made my shopping experience much more enjoyable. It really just seemed second nature to him to help in this way and, to be honest, Alistair wasn’t impressed when it was time to leave and he was handed back to me.”
The post received at least 7,000 likes.
Ahmad responded, “I’m very touched that people have taken the time to make some lovely comments on the video. Chatting to customers and helping make a difference where I can is the bit of my job I enjoy the most.”
Lorraine McGurk, M&S Uddingston Foodhall store manager, said, “We’re overwhelmed with the wonderful response this video has had. I’m very proud of Mubarak and all of the Uddingston team for their hard work and dedication to serving customers.”
McGurk said, “Since we opened in May, going the extra mile for our customers and being part of our community has been a huge part of how we operate and reading everyone’s lovely comments shows that this certainly doesn’t go unnoticed.”
