On February 1, a photograph of an 83 years old Korean woman sitting on the bloodied ground and nursing a gash on her head spread through various social media such as Facebook and Twitter. The woman was attacked by a younger white woman, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The woman, who will remain to be unnamed, was assaulted by a 27 years old white woman who was screaming “White Power!” and yelling racial slurs such as the N-word. This was further proven by a video that captured the white woman yelling.
The suspect, who initially gave her name as Patty Garcia, was later identified as Alexis Duvall through her fingerprints. Duvall is charged of battery and bail set on $50,000.
According to Sgt. Randy Espinoza of the Los Angeles Police Department, the assault won’t be investigated as a hate crime because the witnesses said that they didn’t hear Duvall yell any racial slur during the time that she attacked the elderly woman.
Police officers responded to the call and was directed to the corner of Western Avenue and Council Street. Witnesses reported to officers that Duvall threw a punch at the elderly woman’s head from the back, and then she fell to the ground. The fall caused the victim to suffer a one-inch cut to her left cheek.
Linda Lee, who was a friend of one of the witnesses, shared a photo of the elderly woman on Facebook. She wrote a post accompanying the photo:
I don’t usually voice my political opinions, but I can’t keep quiet anymore…
For the people out there thinking this man is “putting America first” and making decisions that are good for our country, please think again. He has used his platform and power to bring about so much hatred and negativity in our country…
Lee provided an update to dispel allegations that she made the story up:
Update: The girl is 27 years old and bail is set at $50k. The grandma has a 1 inch cut on her forehead but she’ll be fine. If you want more details about this incident or to verify the validity of this, incident, please contact the LAPD.
For those of you who think this is fake news, it’s absolutely real. Just because you can’t find any official news reports of it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. I have absolutely no reason to create a fake story.
I posted this to voice my opinion about how our country is going through really difficult times. I’m not saying instances like this didn’t exist before he came into power.
I’m saying that because of his rants and beliefs that he’s made public to our country, people feel empowered to express their anger, hatred, bigotry, etc. in inappropriate ways. You may disagree with me and that’s your prerogative, but it doesn’t change the fact that instances like this are on the rise after he came into power.
Seng Vongphrachanh, a Koreatown resident, confirmed that Duvall was yelling “power is power” and the N-word as he and another person chased after her. LAPD said that Duvall was homeless and mentally ill.
