A toddler in Tennessee survived several days on her own when nobody realized that her grandmother had passed away while caring for her.
According to WATE, Annette Ineichen, of Marysville, had been taking care of her 15-month-old granddaughter, Brier Rose, since her mother, Tracy Ineichen, was jailed.
Tracy later told authorities that she started feeling nervous about her daughter’s safety when she realized she hadn’t heard from her mother at all.
Finally, the young mom begged her boyfriend, Anthony Waldo, to visit her mother’s house and check on Brier Rose.
The moment Waldo arrived, he knew something felt off—the front glass storm door was locked, but the inside wooden door had been left open.
After calling police for help, Waldo contacted his girlfriend, who immediately told him to break into her mother’s home to make sure Brier Rose was OK.
When he walked into the house, Waldo noticed the very weak toddler stretching out her arms from her crib.
Right away, he smelled urine in the crib and noticed that Brier Rose’s lips were already extremely chapped and swollen.
After police found Ineichen deceased in the master bedroom, Brier Rose was rushed to Children’s Hospital, where doctors began treating her for dehydration.
While police still don’t know exactly how long the toddler had been alone for, Tracy believes her daughter was in the crib for at least three days before police arrived.
Brier Rose may have been alone for as long as an entire week.
