It was certainly a photo shoot to remember for Q May Chen, 27 years old, after she decided to take a huge step for herself. Chen, who’s from New Taipei, Taiwan, was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer, according to BuzzFeed News.

After the diagnosis, Chen took the initiative to live her life to the fullest without ever depending on the existence of another person. Chen had wedding photo shoot of herself.

Chen got her treatment for stage two breast cancer four years ago. Two years later, however, she had a recurrence and the cancer came back with an even more dangerous level: stage four.

Aware that she may not be able to live any longer, Chen made her childhood dream come true—and she didn’t even need a man to make it happen.

Chen told BuzzFeed News, “When I was younger, I loved to dress up and always hoped that I would one day be able to do my own wedding shoot when I got married. And so, I waited, but then I got sick again.”

Chen said, “That was when I finally decided that this was something I needed to do.”

Chen acknowledged that she wasn’t really the independent type. However, she admitted that doing the photoshoot even though she was all by herself made her feel powerful.

Chen said, “I realized that even though I am alone, I can accomplish so much in life. You don’t need to wait for someone to complete you.”

Chen’s decision to step out to the light and bring her story to the public came from her desire to inspire others who are also going through a difficult time in their lives. She hopes that her photoshoot could motivate others to live their lives to the fullest.

Chen said, “I’ve done so many things now that I never thought I’d be able to.” She just got her driving license last year and now she can “go anywhere she wants without depending on others.”

Chen’s plans also included a trip to Bali with her mom as a form of “honeymoon.” She will travel later this year.

Chen said, “I couldn’t have known that stage four cancer was waiting for me, but I’m making the most of the limited time we all have. Things may feel really bad, but staying alive is the most important thing. Everything else is insignificant in the face of that.”

She continued, “I feel like sometimes it may seem like God has made you fall over, but maybe it’s actually him pushing you to achieve something more.”
