A calcified stone weighing three pounds was discovered inside a man’s bladder. The stone was so huge that doctors had to use a crowbar to take it out of the man’s body. Maheshbhai Rasikbhai Patel, 49 years old, was immediately taken to the hospital after he suffered from a burst inside his body, the Metro reports.

The pain that Patel felt in his abdomen was immediate and severe when he was taken to the hospital. After conducting an examination in his body, doctors were surprised to discover a stone. It was later found out that it was weighing three pounds and measuring 11.5 centimeters by 17 centimeters in his bladder.

Patel was directed to the surgery room and the doctors took almost one and a half hours to remove the said stone.

Patel said, “I was suffering from excruciating pain for the past few days. After the operation, I am feeling better.”

Patel, who’s from Valsad, was operated after doctors and examinations revealed that a large stone began to form in his abdomen. After a couple of x-rays, it was confirmed that it was a stone.

Patel had to be given intravenous antibiotics for two days before he can be put for surgery. The doctors had a difficult time removed the calcified material. So they had to use a small tool that resembles the efficiency and purpose of a crow bar to remove the stone from his body.

Dr. Dhirubhai C. Patel said, “The patient did not have a chronic pain. The pain started in the night and showed no signs of going away. After carrying out medical investigations, we discovered that he was having a giant stone in his bladder. Spontaneous formation of stone inside the body is very common in India and worldwide.

“One of the main reasons of formation of stone in this patient could be high level of calcium in his urine and improper flow of urine. In 1997, the patient met with an accident in which he suffered injury in his urethra. This might also have helped in the formation of stone.

“We operated on the patient for one and a half hours and successfully removed the stone. Urinary bladder stone is usually small in size ranging from 1 to 3cm, but this one was really huge.”

In 2010, a stone that weighed 2.6 pounds was taken out of a person’s abdomen. The patient was suffering from cancer. Patel had to stay in the hospital after the surgery for further monitoring.
