If there’s one thing we know about Lady Gaga, it’s that she’s a fierce performer. The eccentric and talented singer has never been one to shy away from crazy outfits, mind-blowing stage performances, or speaking her truth. Just last year, she opened up about her battle with both anxiety and depression, and now, the 31-year-old is dropping another bomb on her fans. On Monday morning, Lady Gaga announced that she would be postponing the European leg of her “Jolene” tour until next year. The reason behind the last minute cancellation is something you probably wouldn’t expect.
“I have always been honest about my physical and mental health struggles. Searching for years to get to the bottom of them.” she wrote in her Instagram post, explaining what was going on. “It is complicated and difficult to explain, and we are trying to figure it out. As I get stronger and when I feel ready, I will tell my story in more depth, and plan to take this on strongly so I can not only raise awareness, but expand research for others who suffer as I do, so I can help make a difference. I use the word "suffer" not for pity, or attention, and have been disappointed to see people online suggest that I'm being dramatic, making this up, or playing the victim to get out of touring.”
She goes on to explain that she is a “fighter” and would never do anything insincere or try to stop her tour if her health wasn’t in jeopardy.
“I use the word suffer not only because trauma and chronic pain have changed my life, but because they are keeping me from living a normal life.” she said. “They are also keeping me from what I love the most in the world: performing for my fans. I am looking forward to touring again soon, but I have to be with my doctors right now so I can be strong and perform for you all for the next 60 years or more. I love you so much.”
In the post, Lady Gaga can be seen holding rosary beads with her eyes closed, potentially in prayer.
“Lady Gaga is suffering from severe physical pain that has impacted her ability to perform.” a statement for the singer read. “She remains under the care of her expert medical professionals who recommended the postponement earlier today.”
The singer’s comment section was flooded with well wishes, each one hoping that she would be back on her feet soon and able to perform. Needless to say, Gaga is “devastated” about stopping her tour short, but her health has to come first if she wants to keep performing for many years to come.
