Better late than never, right?
Kale has been a superfood and go-to health food for basics, health gurus, and average Janes alike. Kale chips, anyone?
While the obsession has definitely died down a bit, it's not out completely, and it appears that Starbucks is looking to finally seize on the opportunity to turn a profit on this hyped up food item by adding it to their menu. Hooray!
On March 31, Starbucks announced that they will be adding a whole new line of smoothies to their menu that features oh-so-tasty kale. Their 16-ounce smoothies will cost about $5.95, and it they will come in three delicious flavors: Sweet Greens, Mango Carrot, and Strawberry.
Apparently, Danon and Evolution Fresh (which Starbucks acquired back in 2011) have worked together to create these tasty drinks, which means that they will feature some protein-packed Greek nonfat yogurt and cold-pressed fruit and vegetable juice.
So far, the drinks are available in Washington, Alaska, Oregon, Northern California, and Idaho.
Starbucks isn't the only big chain out there that's looking to capitalize on the ever-growing kale obsession. It's rumored that McDonald's is looking to add a kale salad to their menu this year, too!
What do you think about these kale smoothies? Will you try one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
