Nina and Randa are best known for their YouTube channel. But recently, they’ve revealed something about themselves that they didn’t want anyone to know.

These 22-year-olds were ravaged with cystic acne when they were 20 years old. As actors and singers, they felt particularly insecure about their acne, since they didn’t feel they could appear in public or on camera without covering it up.

They tried everything. They tried cleansers, topical medications, even antibiotics. But nothing seemed to work.

Their diet, they thought, couldn’t have been the culprit. They were raised vegan, and ate healthy.

But something had to be up.

Their father encouraged them to look up Dr. John McDougall, who had previously helped their mom overcome an autoimmune disease.

Acne, the website said, could be cured just by changing their diet slightly more.

Oils and fats, both in their diets and their topical creams, were the answer.

Of course, Nina and Randa were already vegan. But they were still eating fats—just healthy ones, like dairy-free peanut butter, soy, and avocados.

But according to Dr. McDougall, fats of any kind could be causing the breakouts.

They tried, it, expecting to see results over the long-term. But to their surprise, they started seeing results after just three days. Their only change was cutting out fats and oils from their diet and face cleansing routines.

They were shocked by how quickly they saw results. Not only that, but it kept working.

So now, they keep their diets as low-fat as possible. They eat mostly brown rice and vegetables, whole wheat and rice pasta, white and sweet potatoes, beans, and condiments. They also eat fruit and drink smoothies with oats.
