Now that March is almost in full swing, we can finally expect to see a little sunshine, maybe even some warm weather here and there.

But setting up the grill for a family barbecue is no fun if you’re constantly trying to swat flies away from your face.

It’s impossible to pinpoint exactly how house flies and fruit flies are making their way into your home, but once you spot one you can pretty much expect their entire family to join.

That’s why you have to stop them in their tracks now!

As long as you have a little vinegar and a mason jar on hand, you can easily set up your very own fly trap without running out and buying spray that’s packed with chemicals.

What you need to trap house flies:

  • Vinegar (White or Apple Cider)
  • One Mason Jar or Empty Bottle
  • Dish Soap
  • Sugar
  • Water

While you can eyeball your own measurements with this, the goal is to lure the flies into your mason jar trap, so about ¼ cup sugar mixed with about 1 cup vinegar should do just fine. Next, add a few drops of dish soap and ½ cup water. Make sure to mix the solution enough for the sugar to dissolve completely and secure the lid on top. Before setting up the trap, it’s important to poke a few holes in the lid (just big enough for house flies to get inside). If you don’t want to ruin your lid, use saran wrap secured by a rubber band instead!

What you need to trap fruit flies:

  • Mug or Glass
  • Fork
  • Saran Wrap
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Rubber Band

Pour about 1 cup of apple cider vinegar into you glass or mug and cover the solution with saran wrap. After securing the top with a rubber band, poke small holes into the saran wrap using a fork. You can try setting up a few of these traps around the house, wherever you see fruit flies gathering.
