When it comes to having a great smile, teeth tend to steal all the credit. But a healthy mouth means having healthy gums too.

Unless you already suffer from receding gums, it’s a problem that most people don’t really know a whole lot about—until it happens to them.

There are plenty of reasons your gums might be receding suddenly, but diet and poor hygiene are typically the most common causes.

The good news is that you can actually reverse the effects of receding gums, so you can finally have your beautiful smile back!

Here are a few remedies for receding gums:

  1. Green Tea: Because green tea is so rich in antioxidants, it’s been known to fight free radicals that often lead to gum disease. The catechins in green tea can even help form a better bond between your teeth and your gums. Drinking one cup of green tea a day will work wonders on combating your receding gums.
  2. Aloe Vera: Known for its reparative and anti-inflammatory properties, aloe vera can help activate cells that are needed to regrow receding gums. Aloe vera also has antibacterial properties that can ward off mouth infections. You can use aloe vera in two different ways: put the gel on a toothbrush and brush your gums or add water to the gel and use it as mouthwash.
  3. Sesame Oil: Not only does sesame oil carry anti-inflammatory properties, but it also removes toxins from the body. It’s well-known that swishing sesame oil can help heal cavities and protect from plaque buildup. Try warming the oil once a day before swishing it around in your mouth to prevent and reverse the effects of receding gums.
  4. Lemon Oil: The antiseptic properties found in lemon oil make it an excellent choice when you want to keep your mouth fresh and germ free. Lemon oil can also stimulate the growth of new gum tissue to help grow back receding gums. You can make your own lemon oil at home by mixing ½ cup olive oil with the juice squeezed from one lemon. Massage your gums with the lemon oil no more than once a week, as the acidity can wear down enamel on your teeth.
