CVS Pharmacy is voluntarily recalling several cases of herbal tea over concerns that they may be contaminated with salmonella.
According to a statement released on Sunday from company officials, select cases of Gold Emblem Abound Organic Spiced Herbal Tea have been recalled after a certain ingredient produced by the manufacturer’s raw ingredient supplier tested positive for salmonella in another product.
As the company revealed, the ingredient, which has yet to be named in the media, is also in the tea that CVS sells.
"The company is not aware of any reported cases of illness to date related to this product and it has issued this voluntary recall as a matter of precaution," company officials said in the statement, ABC 7 New York reported.
The recalled tea was reportedly packed in 1.4-ounce containers with the name "Gold Emblem Abound Organic Spiced Herbal Tea 1.41 oz."
According to ABC 7 New York, the recalled tea has a best-by date of 18 Mar 2018, as well as a UPC code of 0 50428 541043.
Although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has since been notified, about 200 units of the potentially contaminated product was sold at CVS locations nationwide before the recall was announced.
Consumers who think they might have tea affected in the recall have been advised to return the product for a full refund.
