As arguably the most popular chocolate brand of all time, it’s hard to imagine Hershey’s bars tasting any more delicious than they already do.

That’s why we were so surprised to hear that the company had started making plans to venture outside of its classic chocolate bars.

But get ready, because your kids are about to start begging you to buy them Hershey’s new pineapple orange…meat bars!

In case you were wondering, that was not a typo. Hershey has just announced its plans to unveil a new line of dried meat bars—YUM!

Although “we aren’t going out there saying it is a meat bar,” a Hershey’s marketing VP told the Wall Street Journal in a recent interview, that’s essentially what the chocolate empire is trying to sell.

“We’re saying it is a Krave bar,” said the marketing VP.

Krave is actually a beef jerky line that Hershey acquired in 2015, which spices up the dried leathery meat with fruity flavors, such as blueberry barbecue beef.

“It is a very low calorie, high protein choice,” Shane Chambers, the GM of Krave Pure Foods, told Food Business News last month.

“It is all natural, has no preservatives, and features additional ingredients like fruit and ancient grains, like quinoa,” Chambers continued.

While it’s hard to imagine Hershey selling anything but tasty chocolate, the bold pivot toward protein-based snacks may be a wise move, considering the recent decline in the company’s chocolate sales.
