On Labor Day, Lisa Lobree was getting ready to participate in a fitness class in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she got hit in the face by a catfish that fell from the sky.

She was walking under a tree when it happened: the fish fell out of nowhere and smacked her right in the face.

“I think it might’ve been head, face, and neck,” she recalled, “because I smelled so bad afterward.”

The moment it happened, Lobree admitted to freaking out and falling onto the ground. The fish, she later estimated, had been about 18-inches long and weighed about 5 pounds, roughly the weight of a gallon of milk.

She and her friend, Annie, who was with her at the time, couldn’t believe what happened.

“I’m more likely to get hit my lightning than get hit by a fish falling from the sky,” Lobree laughed.

Although Lobree is lighthearted about her experience a week after it happened, she admitted that in the moment, she was “really upset, actually.” “I was pretty hysterical,” she recalled.

The incident had taken her completely by surprise. People now speculate that the fish had fallen from the beak of a bird that had been flying overhead at the time.

Lobree was left with a cut under her left eye, swelling in her face and neck – and a fever. The following day, Lobree went to the doctor to get herself checked out.

While her doctor didn’t think the fish had caused any lasting damage, he did give her a tetanus shot and prescribed antibiotics to make sure she would recover just fine.
