Amelia Perrin, a beauty blogger and student at Royal Holloway, University of London, gives many women serious nail envy. Her Instagram feed is already filled with so many aesthetic location shots, incredible fashion choices, and well-plated food. Every time one of these photos features a shot of her perfect nails, the jealousy only grows.
Just last week, however, Perrin came clean about the truth behind her nails.
She’s been wearing acrylic nails for six years straight now. Even in between changing nails, she’s never once taken a break to let her natural nails take a break.
While she usually doesn’t have any trouble with this because she goes to the salon to get her old set removed and new set applied, she was short on time – and decided to remove one set herself at home by just ripping them off.
She shared the aftermath of her poor decision on Twitter for everyone to see:

Thankfully for Perrin, her problem wasn’t going to last forever. According to many female celebrities who also wear fake nails, and nail specialists, the main damage that acrylics can do to a person’s natural nails is when they’re improperly removed.
Peeling the nail off without the proper technique can thin out and damage your natural nail.
As for Perrin, she took two different forms of biotin supplements for the next week and saw a dramatic improvement:
Needless to say, she’s back on her nail game – but now warns her followers to never be lazy and remove acrylic nails at home. The pain and damage you sustain from it is not worth it.
