A mother in Arizona has been arrested on child neglect charges after she allegedly abandoned her children at a park and never returned.

As KPHO/KTVK, 23-year-old Valerie Hazel Carlisle dropped off her 2-year-old daughter and her 9-year-old sister in a park in Phoenix Saturday night and ordered them to stay put until she came back.

According to the court records, the older girl later told authorities that her mother told her and her sister to wait at the park because she would be right back.

The little girl felt like her and her sister had waited for at least an hour in the cold, without jackets, before they finally walked away from the park.

According to authorities, the 9-year-old remembered that they were staying at Adrian Joaquin’s apartment—the grandfather of Carlisle’s boyfriend.

Documents show that the girls knew the general direction of Joaquin’s apartment complex, but didn’t actually know which unit he lived in.

After knocking on a few doors, the girls finally found Joaquin, who immediately called authorities for help.

According to police, the area where the little girls walked through is fairly unsafe, with broken beer bottles and glass shards all over the ground.

When they took Carlisle into custody on neglect charges around 2:30 a.m., she was reportedly already drunk.
