A body camera caught a male commuter firing crude and insensitive words to a ticket manager after the latter asked him for proof of his ride purchase, SWNS News reports.
Elliott Nash, 32 years old, was caught on camera sweating to a ticket manager after he refused to pay for his ticket. He told the manager, who’s a woman, a “grass” and said, “what a s***t job you do, going [to] collect tickets,” according to the video obtained by SWNS.
Nash said, “Go and phone the police, you little muppet… F**k off… And get your little mates ‘cause I’ll spark them out as well… You’re a tramp…”
Nash even threatened to physically hurt the manager. A co-worker came in to help handle the issue, but Nash shoved the other and kicked him down the aisle. Then, Nash told the female manager, “Lucky you’re a woman, mate.”
Nash was arrested at his home two hours after the incident, which happened November 11 last year. Nash, who lives in Northfield, admitted to the charges of common assault and public order offenses against him.
Nash was put in jail for 15 weeks at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on January 19 without any bail.
Police Chief Nicola Mallaber, from the British Transport Police, said, “Despite the overwhelming evidence against him, Nash had the audacity to deny the offences initially, only changing his plea when the case went to trial.”
Mallaber continued, “As the footage shows, his attitude is completely unacceptable and there was absolutely no need for this to have escalated into violence. No member of rail staff should be spoken to in this way or attacked simply for doing their job.”
“We hope this spell behind bars will teach Nash a valuable lesson and make him review his behavior in the future.”
Darren Hanley, head of security and revenue protection for the London Midlands, said, “No colleague or customer should have to see behavior like this when travelling by train. Fare dodging, anti-social behavior and violence will never be tolerated by London Midlands.”
Hanley continued, “In partnership with the British Transport Police and local forces we have made great strides in reducing crime and fare evasion in recent years. Incidents like this just make us more determined to make our railways even safer.”
Nash’s occupation was unknown. According to SWNS and also to the video, he was identified as a “thug.” Hopefully, Nash and other freeloaders who avoid paying for the fare could learn from this terrible incident.
