Every once in awhile, a story comes around that touches everyone’s hearts and makes the world a little brighter, even if it’s just for a bit. Thankfully, an adorable photo as made its way across the internet, and people can’t get enough of how sweet it is. This story will definitely warm your heart and make your day.
Brent Kelley is a 34-year-old pastor who was taking a trip to Sonic with his 3 children. While at the Franklin, Tennessee location, he spotted an elderly man with his wife. What he saw next caused him to snap a photo. The doting dad knew that he had to share the sweet interaction he had seen with the world.
In a now-viral Facebook post, Brent details what happened at Sonic on that Monday afternoon.
“So today, I took the kids to the pool and we stopped for ice cream on the way home.” Brent’s post began. “When I got my ice cream and pulled out, I realized that this elderly man beside me was sitting out side his car door, spoon feeding his wife ice cream who also looked in her late eighties.”
Brent saw that the elderly man was helping his wife enjoy some ice cream on a hot summer day. The way he gently fed her and care for her touched the father’s heart.
“He draped a towel over her and slowly fed his bride in the 98 degree temperature. It was a beautiful display of love.” he wrote.
Since sharing the photo, more than 800,000 people have liked it, and it has been shared over 300,00 times. Clearly, lots of people were moved by the elderly man’s act of love and kindness.
“It was the perfect representation of what love is. It was unselfish. It was 98 degrees and he’s sitting next to the pavement, which is also warm, and he’s feeding his wife ice cream because she’s disabled.” Brent said.
The comment section was flooded with people saying how sweet the moment was, and how beautiful it was to see an elderly couple still so in love and caring for each other.
“What a beautiful post. I'm still crying” one person wrote. “Beautiful story of lasting love” said another.
“There are some people in this world that get it. Love is simple and it is free.” one woman commented.
Brent said he believed the couple to be around 80 years old.
In an even more amazing turn of events, the son of the elderly couple reached out to Brent for sharing the touching photo and kind words.
“They said they felt really blessed by what everyone was saying,” Brent said. I know it captivated my heart.”
