If you’re thinking about buying new sheets, you might want to opt for something bright and vibrant to repel bedbugs away from your bedroom.

An eye-opening new study found that bedbugs, just like many other insects, are drawn to certain colors way more than others.

According to CNN, while bedbugs thrive in dark blue, red, and black colors, they absolutely despise white, orange, yellow, green, and pretty much any bright color you can think of.

Because bedbugs spend plenty of time hiding under cracks and small crevices, researchers set up tiny bedbug “tents” in a Petri dish.

Each little tent was a different color, an idea the researchers used to see which ones the bedbugs would try to hide inside.

"We joked that we are all going to buy bright yellow luggage bags because the bedbugs seem not to prefer them, or not to prefer laying eggs on them," said Roberto Pereira, an urban entomology research scientist at the University of Florida.

As CNN reports, Pereira was part of the medical team that carried out the research, which was published Monday in the Journal of Medical Entomology.

While plenty of people can easily go through their entire lives without a single bedbug infestation, the most common way these insects are spread often comes from hotel rooms.

Vacationers may pick up bedbug eggs from a hotel room and bring them home without ever even knowing it.

The researchers in this particular study say this can easily be avoided by packing all your belongings in brightly colored luggage.
