A beautiful smile starts with sparkling white teeth, but you can easily brush five times a day without seeing any results.
What gives? You’ve tried whitening toothpastes and strips, DIY whiteners, and more. At some point you’ve probably even tried giving up coffee and red wine just to see what would happen.
But as long as you’re still drinking these beverages, those yellow stains aren’t leaving your pearly whites anytime soon:
- White Wine: While red wine usually seems to be the culprit when it comes to stained teeth, white wine isn’t far behind. The only difference is that white wine tends to react with different foods, rather than on its own. For example, let’s say you’ve just had a glass of white wine before digging into some fresh blueberries. A few sips of white wine is all it takes for your teeth to essentially suck in the color of the blueberries.
- Lemonade: You’ve probably already heard that acidic foods, like lemons, can erode the enamel on your teeth. But did you know that having less enamel protecting your teeth can actually leave them stained? Without that protective layer, you’re pretty much giving anything you eat or drink an open invitation to stick to your teeth all day.
- Sports Drinks: While sports drinks may not stain your teeth quite as seriously as, say, coffee, they still do plenty of damage. Not to mention, most sports drinks are filled with sugar that will decay your teeth over time!
- Green Tea: If you’re hoping to whiten your teeth by avoiding coffee, then you’ve probably tried switching to green tea. Unfortunately, that isn’t actually the best idea. Green tea has been known to stain teeth yellow or gray, especially if you drink it regularly.
- Green Juices/Smoothies: Just because green juices are healthy, that doesn’t mean they’ll also work wonders on your teeth. All those bright berries will probably leave your teeth looking a little lackluster over time, though not quite as badly as coffee or tea.
